The Electric Jesus: The Healing Journey of a Contemporary Gnostic
When Jonathan Talat Phillips experiences a devastating loss as a countercultural media activist, he unwittingly starts on a mystical journey marked by underground ayahuasca ceremonies, kundalini awakenings, prankster spirit guides, extraterrestrial encounters at the Burning Man festival, and miraculous energy healings that reshape his skeptical worldview. Along the way, he chronicles the rise of an international movement that is trailblazing visionary ways to address our current planetary crisis through raised consciousness.
To better understand his spiritual journey, Jonathan delves into his own Christian background, discovering the lost rites of the mystery schools. Uncovering secret “electric” meanings behind biblical symbols like the serpent, dove, and tree of life, he reveals how early Christians utilized a radical initiation process for harnessing divine energy in order to achieve gnosis, direct knowledge or experience of the divine. Jonathan suggests that these mystical symbols, which appear in spiritual traditions across the globe, offer a profound energetic roadmap and alchemical message for personal transformation, as well as a potential evolutionary shift for our world.

Today, Jonathan Talat Phillips is a motivational speaker who also practices a unique combination of Reiki energy healing, Bioenergic Therapy, and life coaching. His route to get where he is now was far from direct.
The journey of awakening began when Phillips was a countercultural media activist. After being devastated by the result of the 2004 election, he was a young man who felt disillusioned and uncertain of which direction his life should take. After an experience with the drug ecstasy in a night club, Phillips discovers that he can see colorful auras vibrating around everyone he meets. Believing the drug has opened his mind to a new level of consciousness, he begins to research spiritual texts for a connection. He finds a most compelling link in the Gnostic Gospels. These are a number of preserved religious texts that are believed to be based on the teachings of a number of spiritual leaders including Judas, Phillip and Jesus.
Convinced that the auras he is seeing is a spiritual energy that connects all living forms, he decides to explore his newly found gift further. This leads him to participate in underground mystical ceremonies and experiments with the natural hallucinogen ayahuasca. Over the next few months he experiences a powerful kundalini awakening, flashbacks to past lives, prankster spirits, and encounters with extraterrestrial beings. Finally realizing the power and energy we all carry with us, Phillips makes it his mission to share it with others to continue to raise consciousness.
“The Electric Jesus” is Phillips’ moving and often humorous chronicle of his mystical awakening. It is also an introduction to an underground global movement involving people who are aware of our current planetary crisis, and are seeking ways to prevent it through the power of collective consciousness. Phillips continues his mission to make changes through his public speaking and the development of small groups through the “Evolver Social Movement.” This entails “spreading an emerging heart-based culture, creating a synchronized latticework to today’s dangerous and divisive systems.” The book is an interesting exploration of mysticism and subculture and provides some tantalizing clues to a movement that deserves a closer look.
